Yes, You Are What You Eat! I can’t say it enough. Here’s why:

It’s not only important what we eat, but also what the foods we eat, ate.

Many cattle are fed supplements, hormones and antibiotics. Therefore, eating a diet high in hormone supplemented meats can cause various health problems. And that’s why it’s so important to eat healthy, quality foods!  If you can eat grass-fed (or pasture-roaming) meat, do it!  Not only does it taste great but look at these great benefits:

1 – because cattle are allowed to graze and forage for food on their own, grass is higher in Omega 3s and B vitamins, resulting in leaner, healthier and more flavorful meat.
2 – eating it can prevent disease and improve brain function.
3 – its lower in calories, has less total fat and higher levels of antioxidants.
3 – it has more conjugated linoleic acid, a type of fat thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks.

How about the herbicides and pesticides that are sprayed on produce? Animals that feed on these heavily sprayed crops have a higher level of chemicals than these crops because they are retained in fat and muscle tissue.  Consider eating all organic, which uses natural fertilizers. Livestock are given all organic, GMO- and hormone-free feed.

That’s why its important to read those food labels!  Have you heard of “calcium chloride”?  It’s an ingredient listed in canned tomatoes, and a type of calcium salt used for many purposes – to stabilize or preserve foods, as well as De-ice sidewalks.  If you ingest too much, it can cause your stomach to hurt.

I am not a fan of Monosodium Glutamate or MSG. Because of the reactions that I get from eating it: Headache, nausea, upset stomach.   Yet, did you know that this ingredient has other names as well and so it can hide in your food and you don’t even know it’s there!

Here are some other sneaky names for MSG so check your labels!:

  • Yeast extract
  • Anything “hydrolyzed
  • Calcium caseinate
  • Sodium caseinate
  • Soy protein /Soy protein concentrate /Soy protein isolate
  • Whey protein
  • Bouillon
  • Maltodextrin
  • Seasonings (who knows what’s in that!!)
  • Anything “fermented”
